Siem Reap

Siem Reap, the gateway to the temples of Angkor.

Siem Reap in Cambodia.

A city that has reinvented itself after the occupation of the Khmer Rouge. The booming city is developing more and more into a tourist stronghold and party mile.

In the area around Pub Street, there are countless bars and night markets for every taste. Shopping at Siem Reap at night. Some of the shops with and without air conditioning, have live music.

You can’t go wrong visiting the restaraunts, the food is generally good and the food and drinks menues are clearly displayed.

Siem Reap is Cambodia’s tourist hotspot for one reason. It is only five kilometers to the temples of Angkor Wat.

Just outside the city there is the Siem Reap International Airport. The trip to the city costs 5 to 10 US dollars.

The bus from the Aranyaprathet / Poipet border crosses only when it’s full and costs $ 10.

The tourist visa for Cambodia costs $ 30, with a maximum stay of 30 days. The visa is available at the border.

If you would like to see more of Cambodia, I recommend a round trip through the country.

With an entry via Koh Kong and Tatai, on to Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville. Sihanoukville with a stay on one of the islands and from there via Phnom Penh to Siem Reap.

Departure to Thailand is then the border crossing Aranyaprathet / Poipet. Or entry Aranyaprathet / Poipet and departure Koh Kong. See map.

There is a short and interesting bus tour from Siem Reap or Poipet to Pursat.

From Pursat it goes through the jungle of Cambodia, on to Koh Kong by taxi, minibus or motorcycle.

The ride through mountains, valleys and a magnificent jungel landscape is perfect for a biker tour.
